Early Childhood

Goals

To foster collaboration amongst early childhood advocates, in order to maximize community resources for comprehensive, quality services to young children and their families.

The Early Childhood Coordinating Council (ECCC)

The Early Childhood Coordinating Council (ECCC) is a subcommittee of the Lincoln Commission on Children & Families (LCCF). The ECCC's primary task is to advise the LCCF in their development and maintenance of an Early Childhood System of Services and Supports. The council also recommends uses for Child Care Development Funds and other allocations that come to the LCCF from the federal government which are dedicated to supporting the 0-8 year old population.

Membership should include a diverse group of community partners who work with children & families including early childhood care and education providers, parents or other family members with special needs children aged 0-12 and other agency or community organization representatives.

Priorities

Priorities of the Lincoln Commission on Children & Families and Early Childhood Coordinating Council:

  1. Reduce child maltreatment
  2. Increase quality of childcare and early childhood education

Parenting Hub

The Lincoln Commission on Children & Families, along with dedicated partners of the Early Childhood Coordinating Council, recently received a three year grant from The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF).

The grant supports the creation of Coastal Families Together (CFT), a collaboration of family-focused agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses, educational institutions and the Lincoln Commission on Children and Families (LCCF). Coastal Families Together will build the infrastructure to offer and sustain parenting education in our coastal communities using the following parenting programs: Parents as Teachers, Incredible Years and Make Parenting a Pleasure. In addition to classes, CFT will offer special events and family activities in order to develop community-wide enthusiasm for parenting education.

The grant, awarded under OCF’s Ready to Learn Program, is a part of the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative, a new multi-year initiative developed by the Oregon Community Foundation in partnership with Meyer Memorial Trust, The Ford Family Foundation, the Collins Foundation, and Oregon State University.
